What We Do
Build new websites. Compelling online brochures, eCommerce, WordPress or custom CMS. We build websites that match your needs and your market.
Refresh existing websites. Already have a website? We can make it better. A fresh, exciting look. Easier to use. Less costly to maintain.
Help you avoid expensive mistakes. Before accepting another web team’s proposal, get a second opinion.
Who We Are
Partners Heidi Bautista & Russ Helfand
Heidi and Russ met while attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1982. Throughout the years of working together, they’ve had the opportunity to interact with businesses and non-profits all over the world on a variety of projects: from web design & development to software architecture to technical writing & speaking.
Russ and Heidi graduated with degrees in Chemical Engineering but each moved quickly to careers in software development. Heidi founded Groovy bits in 1999. Russ joined the business full time in 2006 after having worked for industry leaders Microsoft and Macromedia (now Adobe).
As a Dreamweaver developer at Macromedia, Russ enhanced support for CSS and ASP.NET. Russ’ current focus is the high-volume Microsoft Partner Network website, which uses Azure-based web services (WCF).
Heidi created the Camden Public Library’s first website in 1995 and since then has mainly worked with small- to medium-sized companies who seek to build their brand’s online presence as well as non-profits who need a responsive, easy-to-maintain website.
Depending on the project, Heidi and Russ sometimes collaborate to fulfill a project’s requirements (e.g., Microsoft PlayReady). Regardless of whether they’re working together or separately, Heidi and Russ bring a wealth of experience to any job.
Because Heidi and Russ believe strongly in giving back, they have provided web development services free-of-charge for a number of non-profit organizations over the years. The first was a conservation organization based in Ecuador, Nature and Culture, whose mission was and continues to be the conservation of threatened ecosystems and cultures of Latin America. More recently Heidi and Russ created a new WordPress website for Girls Inc of Carpinteria (a non-profit devoted to inspiring girls to be “Strong, Smart and Bold”) and continue to provide support.
Heidi and Russ have given website expertise to Domestic Violence Solutions for Santa Barbara County (whose goal is to end the inter-generational cycle of domestic violence) since 2006 and to the Friends of Carpinteria Library (the nonprofit supporting our small local library) since 2011.
And, lastly, all the photos used on this site were taken by either Russ or Heidi. Home page photos, top to bottom are:
